GATHERING GROUND REPORT - JUNE 14, 2023

Editor's note: no picture submitted, so we had to improvise |
On June 14th, Norn LaPointe, Chet Bernat, Dave O’leary, Dave Ewbank, JoAnn Smith and Bill Wills attended the monthly breakfast at the Gathering Ground In Windsor Locks. (Sorry no Pictures this month, we all forgot!)
Chet talked about ending his relationship with a land line telephone. He now has two cell phones, one of which answers to his old land line number which makes everyone happy. Follow on conversations talked about poor reception in certain areas, and the different plans everyone has. Surprisingly, everyone had a different plan, and each thought they had the BEST plan!!!
A very short discussion about the PGA Golf and LIV consolidation. NOBODY thought it was a good idea, especially Dave O. The PGA has now fallen off the pedestal it used to be on. We golfers are worried about the future of the game, hoping it doesn’t turn into a circus.
It was mentioned that the Granby Moose was euthanized at Bradley Airport last week. It’s been roaming around Granby for a while, minding his own business, but when it got near the airport…
Jo Ann’s husband, Jim, is driving the Granby Senior Citizens bus lately, and is really enjoying it (the driving) and the seniors. He has regular routes and other non-scheduled stops along the way. (Hey Jim, can we stop at the package store?) He also is pursuing the culinary arts, at Manchester CC. I can contest that he makes the BEST Bread ever.
JoAnn also noted that the Mount Washington huts are open for the season. She spent a weekend at Lake of the Clouds hut with Jim and her daughter. They had the hut to themselves and had a ball.
There was a discussion about heart pacemakers. (Are we getting old or what!!!) Surprisingly, in our group only Dave has one installed and it’s working fine. We discussed all the different styles and options, but nobody volunteered to take one for a test drive.
The last important topic was a cell phone feature, many of us were not aware of. When you open the phone, there is an ‘emergency’ button on the panel where you enter your password. It opens to a keyboard, where you can dial 911 or other number. It also allows you to store emergency info, (name, address, blood type, allergies, medications, contacts and more).
If someone finds you on the side of the road unconscious, (or someplace else!) they have access to this info. No password required.
Thanks to JoAnn for demonstrating this feature. We all started entering our data at the table. We all feel safer now.
Well that’s it for this month. See you all soon
