December 10 Gathering Ground Report; SPAM; Waiting for the Next Winter Storm

 GATHERING GROUND REPORT - DECEMBER 10, 2025

Jerry, Bill, Pete, Jo-Ann

This was one of the warmer days this season with a predicted high of 40 degrees after several days of under 32.  And then back to the deep freeze for the following week.  Us skiers like this but and the home heating oil companies, but not so much for the other folks who have not escaped to the southern states yet.

JoAnn, Bill, Pete and Jerry enjoyed a breakfast feast and lots of conversation at the Gathering Ground Restaurant in Windsor Locks .  Bill and Jo were at the table when I arrived shortly before 8AM(our newly agreed-to start time).  Jo stated that if I don't get somewhere early I will be late.   This sent some of the heads at the table cocking sideways to really understand what she meant.   It was a long explanation and my fingers are getting tired of typing so I'll end here cause it still didn't make sense to any of us....

Pete was sporting a new shirt recently purchased at Sierra Trading Post.  Sierra.com for online purchases.   Great selection of outfitter equipment for the skier, fisherman, hiker, general outdoor person.   Sort of like TJMax without the more glitzy stuff.  Jerry has ordered from them for years and most of the items have found their way into his youngest son's wardrobe.

Corned Beef hash was enjoyed by Bill and Jerry.   One of the best in many many restaurants in the state of Connecticut.  I'll be back in a month for more.
Pete enjoyed the Super Sandwich from the SPecial menu.   Typical two Egg sandwich with double the meat for less than $10!

Conversation about Cossett Library in Granby and all that it offers for the residence a "Makers Space" that includes tools like 3D printing, Laser cutter, digital copier and embroidery machine.  HERE is link.  https://www.granby-ct.gov/500/Makerspace-at-Cossitt.

With Christmas coming up the conversation drifted to presents for the kids and other younger relatives.   Bill stated that when the nieces and nephews exceed 20 his participation in gifting began to diminish.  Most of us only gift to our immediate family kids (if) they offer a list of needs or wants.  Otherwise, socks, gloves and other practical items may be found under the tree.

Jo presented a wonderful app(most likely not needed in our later life stage for most of us sitting at the table) it's called Yuka.  This app reads the barcode of things we purchase that eventually wind up in our bodys and let you know how healthy the product is for you.   Jerry immediately downloaded and spent 15 minutes in the house pantry scanning all the products on the shelf.  it rates from 0 to 100.   Nothing in the pantry got a 100, some in the low 90's but in the back was a can of Spam, this was not a great surprise about its health rating but the Zero(0) did make me think about the early times I did enjoy that flavor with some scrambled eggs!  Never more.....
